From Engineer to Health Advocate
As an Instrumentation Engineer, I was trained to solve complex problems with data and precision. Yet, when it came to my own health, I struggled to apply the same logical, problem-solving approach. Weight gain, exhaustion, and declining metabolic health had me stuck in the same frustrating cycle as so many others. Medication was offered as the solution to my symptoms, but I wasn’t willing to accept that. I knew I needed a fundamental change.
Like most people, I turned to diets, chasing that one metric everyone focuses on—weight loss. And while I could lose weight on caloric deficit diets, the results were never sustainable. My weight yo-yoed, and more importantly, my metabolic markers weren’t improving. No matter how much or how little I ate, I wasn’t getting healthier—I was just manipulating the scale. I knew this couldn’t be the answer to long-term health.
Then, more than 15 years ago, Juliette and I heard Tim Noakes share his own transformation journey. His words made sense, yet I had never considered nutrition and health from that perspective. That moment set us on a deep dive into the science of carbohydrate intolerance, blood sugar control, and metabolic health. So, I turned my analytical mindset toward the most important system of all—my own body. I became my own experiment, tracking real-time data, testing nutrition, movement, and lifestyle changes. What I discovered was life-changing—by shifting my focus to metabolic health, I wasn’t just losing weight. I was regaining control, reversing symptoms, and unlocking energy I thought was gone for good.
I realised that most people don’t fail at health because they lack willpower—they fail because they lack the right insights. When you have the right data, everything changes.
Now, as a Metabolic Health Engineer, my mission is to empower others with the same tools that transformed my life.

Rethinking Food, Redefining Health
I’ve always been intentional about my health—making mindful food choices and staying active, whether through trail running, hiking, or simply moving every day. But when I watched Gavin struggle with his health, it became clear that what we thought was “healthy” wasn’t actually working. Something had to change.
As we started questioning conventional advice, we dug deeper into the science of blood sugar control, carbohydrate intolerance, and metabolic health. What we uncovered was impossible to ignore.
I turned to the kitchen, cutting out refined sugar and flour from our meals. But with Gavin’s serious sweet tooth, I knew this needed to be sustainable, not restrictive. So, I started experimenting—turning our favourite treats into low-carb, nutrient-dense versions. From sugar-free brownies to flourless breads, I became a low-carb baking expert—not to follow a trend, but to help Gavin’s body heal without feeling deprived.
While I focused on food, Gavin tracked data and metabolic science, and together, we saw firsthand the power of real nutrition and informed choices. But my biggest revelation? Much of what I had learned in my formal nutrition education was outdated. I had to unlearn conventional wisdom to truly understand what nourishes, heals, and fuels the body. The more I learned, the clearer it became—health isn’t about following the rules; it’s about understanding your body.
Now, as a certified metabolic health coach, I help others break free from outdated health advice and discover what truly works for energy, longevity, and performance—without sacrificing the joy of food.
Because health isn’t about restriction—it’s about freedom.
